I'm Paul Cumbleton and I live in Somerton, Somerset in the southwest of the U.K. I grew Pleione for more than 20 years and also bred many of my own hybrids, raising my own seeds in flasks at home using makeshift equipment (see Growing from Seed).
My collection used to number over 800 pots but recently, due to problems with virus, I decided to stop growing Pleiones. Please note therefore that I no longer grow Pleione and am therefore unable to offer any for sale. |
Together with my partner, we grow quite a lot of bulbs in pots under glass. Our two main collections are of Fritillaria and of winter-growing South African bulbs (I am particularly fond of Massonia and Daubenya). But we are plantaholics and grow a very varied mix of other things too, particularly alpines. Professionally I had the good fortune to work for the Royal Horticultural Society as the Team Leader of the Alpine Section at the famous Wisley Garden. Previously I was a scientific officer for ADAS, which at that time was part of the Ministry of Agriculture. I am now retired and so able to spend more time caring for my own plants.
